Best Carrier Oil For Skin Firming

A carrier oil is a plant-based oil extracted from a nut or a seed used to moisturize and heal the skin. It can be used alone or in combination with other oils (usually to get the right formula that will work well for your skin type).

High-quality essential oils are often added to carrier oils to provide specific therapeutic effects for the skin. The skin absorbs natural oils easily because they do not contain chemicals or fillers. Thus, it protects the skin’s lipid barrier and prevents moisture from evaporating out of the skin.

The top layer of your skin, called the stratum corneum, is composed of dead skin cells held together by lipids (or oils.) Keeping this layer constantly supplied with healthy oils will protect your skin from the elements and will help your skin to have a beautiful healthy, moisturized glow!

Here 5  best carrier oils for Skin Firming:

1. Jojoba Oil

This oil made of wax ester is one of the most popular oils around. It works well with all skin types and has anti-inflammatory properties. The Jojoba Oil light-weight so it’s easily absorbed by the skin.

It also has a way of carrying essential oils very deep into the skin.

2. Avocado Oil

This oil is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A, D, and E. It can equally serve as a wonderful overall moisturizer. Avocado is very rich in antioxidants and can be wonderful for inflammation soothing purposes.

It has high sterolin content. Sterolins are compounds which are anti-inflammatory making avocado oil helpful in healing sun damage and age spots, as well as inflammatory skin conditions like blemishes and eczema.

3. Olive Oil:

Yes, the same kitchen olive oil! I have used this oil severally in my face oils. Olive oil is high in oleic acid (a monosaturated fatty acid), making it just perfect for drier skin.

It is a heavy oil, unlike Jojoba that dries a bit more slowly. Just be aware that 2/3 of olive oils tested in the US market were found to be adulterated. Be sure to use only a trusted, good quality olive oil.

4. Argan Oil:

Pressed from the nut of the fruit of the Argan Tree, found only in Morocco. Because of the high levels of vitamin E /tocopherols (antioxidants) and saponins (skin-softening agents), argan oil is a wonderful oil for anti-aging.

It can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles by restoring the skin`s hydro-lipid layer. It has also been shown to have a tightening effect on the skin. I love this oil because it absorbs so nicely into my skin and does not leave an oily residue.

5. Rose Hip Seed Oil:

This oil happens to be one of my favorite carrier oils. It is good for dry, aging skin because it is deeply nourishing and regenerating. It is known for it’s firming properties and may improve skin elasticity.

Rose Hip seed oil is high in essential fatty acids and softens and smooths out the skin beautifully. It improves the texture of your skin and calms redness and inflammation. It can also help reduce scarring.

Risk Factors, Usage, & Warnings

As earlier said, the potency of essential oils cannot be underestimated. This is why it is important to use it with caution. Pure essential oils are highly concentrated and so are potent. Therefore, they should not be applied to the skin without care.

Before using essential oils, there is a need to dilute with carrier oils like coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, jojoba oil, and avocado oil. Jojoba oil is more efficient in this case because of its healing and moisturizing effect on all skin types.

Also, before applying the oil on the skin, ensure to do a patch test to determine any potential allergic reaction. To do this, rub the diluted mix on the inside of your forearm and allow to stay. If after 24 hours you do not experience any irritation or discomfort, the oil is safe to use on other body parts.

In mixing the oils, you can make a large batch or a small batch. If you are doing a large batch, you need to use more oil. For example, you will need at least 50 drops of essential oil of your choice to blend with a 16-ounce bottle of carrier oil.

However, I recommend starting with only 10-15 drops of your chosen essential oil to make a small batch for testing.

This allows you to experiment with the small batch before moving on to a large batch. That way, you can use the mix for something else without accruing financial loss.

Also, ensure you use the purest grade of carrier oil, i.e. virgin because they have therapeutic properties and boost the activity of essential oils. You can also add vitamin E oil or glycerin for a moisturizing effect.

I recommend that certain people with existing conditions should talk to their doctor or a certified aromatherapist before using. These include pregnant or nursing mothers, people with an existing medical condition, or if you wish to use the oil on older adults or children.

This is because the potential side effects of using the oil may include skin sensitivity, skin irritation, skin inflammation, or allergies.
